SURE: a new technique to ensure clients have understood your advice

  • Wed 17 May 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm
    • Jeff Heasman, Insuranceupskill.com

We naturally ask the client if there is anything they didn't understand and often, the client replies “No”. Or we ask if everything was clear and the client answers “Yes”. But can we rely on these answers as being an accurate reflection of whether the client truly has listened to and understood that advice? The answer is NO!! Recent FCA guidance papers on vulnerable customers and the new consumer duty have emphasised the obligation to take steps to ensure the customer has understood our advice and recommendations and anyway, it is just good practice! That is why, in this session, Jeff Heasman will outline his SURE technique for insurance, legal and financial services professionals, based on concept checking, a method traditionally used in language teaching. Concept checking is designed to determine, with as much certainty as possible, that the client has understood the advice. Easy to apply to day-to-day interactions with clients, the SURE technique will help avoid misunderstandings now and in the future.

Building Confidence & Shifting Your Emotional State

  • Fri 28 Apr 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm

This Webinar comes highly recommended by other local institutes: Many people believe that their emotional state is entirely dictated by external factors over which they have no control. For example, how often do we hear people say, ‘You make me angry/happy/sad’? In the workplace many develop unconscious strategies that affect their emotional state and significantly affect their performance; typical examples include making telephone calls – particularly cold calls – and presenting or speaking in public. This empowering session shows delegates how to take control of their emotional state, shifting to the best possible state to achieve highly successful outcomes at work and at home

Regulation webinar - FCA GI Consumer Duty & Update

  • Tue 13 Dec 10:00 am – 11:00 am
    • Branko Bjelobaba FCII

The FCA want to see a higher level of consumer protection where firms compete vigorously in the interests of consumers and they wish to drive a healthy and successful financial services system in which firms can thrive and consumers can make informed choices about financial products and services. They consider that firms are not consistently and sufficiently prioritising good consumer outcomes and this causes consumer harm and erodes consumer trust. With final rules published on 27 July 2022 this talk will update you as to what now will be needed over the next 12 months. This General Insurance focused session will also include an update on Product Value Assessments that had to be completed by 30 September (note the FCA have criticised insurers for their lack of progress with this) and have given brokers an extension of 90 days so as to prevent customer harm. Both brokers and insurers have an important role to play and this session will ensure you understand what it is you have to do and what changes need to happen in year two of the process to ensure it all gets done. We will also cover the current position on multi-occupancy insurances following intervention by the government (very much part of the product governance/value assessments) and an update on the FCA’s work on Appointed Representatives

ACII FastTrack Programme - Register Your Interest

  • Thu 01 Dec – Thu 01 Dec

As an institute we are continually reviewing the needs of our members and over recent months we have been approached by some to inquire if we are considering running a Fast Track ACII programme as we did the Dip programme back in 2020. Before we can make a final decision on this we would like to hear from our members if this is something that would be of interest as we would need a minimum number of people to make this cost effective. The sessions would likely be run by webinar over an 18 month period covering 5 topics and would include tuition and guidance. The cost of the text books etc. would need to be met by the student or their employer and we would ask you to sign up to complete the whole course. You will need to be DIP CII qualified (or very nearly) to undertake the programme. If you have already started down the ACII track, you may still be able to join the programme - please email joanne.marriott@russellscanlan.com with details of what you have completed etc. for consideration if we go ahead with the course. If you think this is something you would be interested in, please let us know by clicking the Book Now button and registering your interest by the 1st December. Thank you

WEBINAR: An Introduction to Blockchain and Cryptocurrency and the impact on Insurance

  • Wed 09 Nov 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm
    • Gary Nuttall

Blockchain, Distributed Ledger Technology, Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general keep appearing in the news. Whether it’s about ransomware, the dark web, money laundering or fraud, it tends to have only bad stories written about it. There’s also a lot of hype too as Bitcoin keeps going up in price, “DeFi” is the next big thing and Non-Fungible Tokens (NFT’s) are the latest craze. The digital artist known as Beeple recently raised $69 Million from the auction of an NFT. The technology is full of buzzwords which makes it difficult to appreciate that it does offer some radical alternatives to how businesses operate and could have a transformative effect – particularly in insurance. The session is intended for those who wish to gain an understanding of blockchain core concepts, use cases and relevance to insurance. It is designed to be business, rather than technical, focused and no prior knowledge of Blockchain is required.
