AF1 Day 2

The Personal Finance Society Hants and Dorset Regional Committee in association with the Insurance Institutes of Bournemouth and Southampton have organised a training day for those members who are studying for and taking the AF1 examination. As AF1 is a large topic to cover, the training has been split into Day 1 and Day 2 to fully cover the subjects involved. Delegates are advised to attend both sessions. Priority will be given to Dorset based members of the PFS Hants and Dorset Region.

The cost of each day’s training is £76.27 for PFS members and £86.41 for non PFS members. There is a maximum of 14 attendees. If we are oversubscribed, you will be placed on a waiting list.

The venue is the MacAllister Suite, the Vitality Stadium, AFC Bournemouth, Dean Court, Bournemouth, Dorset, BH7 7AF. There is NCB parking by the stadium.

For refreshments there will be tea/coffee and water available. A finger buffet lunch will be provided. The Vitality Stadium does not permit delegates to provide their own lunch.

The day will commence at 0930 sharp and finish by 1645.

The AF1 preparation day aims to increase your chances of passing the exam.

AF1 is a challenging exam and candidates need to be well prepared if they are to have a reasonable chance of passing.

This will be very much a revision day so it’s important that you come with a reasonable knowledge of the main subjects of the syllabus.

Day 2 will cover: Residence and Domicile, Trust Principles, Taxation of Trusts, Wills and Intestacy, LPA, Bankruptcy

Over the two days, delegates will cover:

  • The typical income tax questions you can expect in the exam
  • The typical CGT questions you can expect in the exam
  • The typical IHT questions you can expect in the exam.
  • The taxation of the main investment products
  • The main types of trusts and how they are taxed.
  • Substituted decision making (LPA)
  • Wills and intestacy
  • Bankruptcy

The course trainer is John Trayner FCII FPFS, a CII approved trainer, who has supported the Personal Finance Society Hants and Dorset Region’s exam revision programme since 2018.

If you go to www.audley-training.co.uk you can access a lot of material that will help you prepare for the day. A good place to start would be the video tutorials and then go to the tax section. These cover almost all the material that might be tested. They are all quite short, typically 15 to 20 minutes so try and watch as many as you can ahead of the day.
