- Tanya Bedford ACII, Chartered Insurance Risk Manager
I am very honoured to be elected to lead the Luton & Hertfordshire institute for the next 12 months. I became a council member back in April 2018, and have had the pleasure in helping shape our wonderful institute, with a dedicated group of volunteers, for the past 2 years.
My aims for the next 12 months are to:
• celebrate success across our institute;
• focus and promote the importance of education;
• continue to grow our fantastic women’s network that we launched in 2019; and
• engage with new professionals within our institute.
I am very pleased to have our first New Professionals Officer appointment for this year and look forward to working with Alexandra to engage with members of all ages, who have recently joined the insurance profession. I personally came into the insurance industry quite late in life, having now been in the profession for 6 years, and wanted to ensure that we created a role that didn’t just focus on our ‘young professionals’ coming into the industry.
With the current Covid 19 crisis, you will be aware that many of our planned CPD events have been cancelled or postponed. It is a real testament to our institute that we have worked with our network of professional speakers, as well as central figures within the CII, to bring you a wide selection of webinar events, holding several events across March with many more booked in for April and May. We will strive to continue to bring you not only CPD events, but social events where we can, in a new format to continue to provide the service our members deserve. The current crisis has also meant that our annual dinner has been postponed until October 2020. I look forward to seeing many of you there, where we can celebrate Gavin Potter’s successful year as President. Who can forget the ground breaking trips to Notre Dame!
We are always keen to welcome anyone who wishes to give back something to our wonderful industry, so please do get in touch if you would like to join our fantastic team of council volunteers. It is a great way to meet new people in the industry and make a real difference to those within our institute.
This is an unprecedented time for us all and on behalf of all of the council team, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your families continued good health.
