by Tim Benson, TBBS Ltd.

FREE PFS EVENT - ALL WELCOME

Aim of the Workshop.

To help IFAs develop the opportunities that Pension Freedom has created by discussing the following

a) How Pension Freedom has changed everything.

b) WHY Pension Freedom has changed everything.

Learning Objectives

• To understand and recognise the opportunity that Pension Freedom offers your business

• To understand how these opportunities will help you develop Professional Connections

• To recognise what opportunities exist between now and April 5th 2016

• To recognise your value in the eyes of your client.

Content.

The Defined Contribution Pension World has changed, probably forever. The Annuity market is on its knees as everybody wants Flexi Access Drawdown. Yet, as we head to the first anniversary of the Pension Freedom changes, I am surprised at how little IFAs have changed their working practices since April 2015. The aim of this Workshop is NOT to discuss what Pension Freedom is, but what it does. Therefore, we will look at the following topics

• How some IFAs are embracing these changes to produce a client facing, service led proposition where products like Pensions, ISAs and Investment Bonds are merely 'boxes' to provide client with income now or in the future.

• We will consider the death benefit changes and what implications they have to your business

• We will look at how your role will change with Professional Connections.

How some IFAs are embracing these changes to produce a client facing, service led proposition where products like Pensions, ISAs and Investment Bonds are merely 'boxes' to provide client with income now or in the future. We will consider the death benefit changes and what implications they have to your business We will look at how your role will change with Professional Connections

Please note that we will NOT be dealing with the technical issues surrounding Tapered Relief for Annual Allowance and the Taxation Implications of the Dividend Changes. Remember, this workshop will discuss HOW you use these changes to develop new clients or a better relationship with your existing clients. It is NOT another Pensions Technical Workshop.

However, if your website still has 'Pensions' and 'Investments' as topic headings, this workshop is probably for you. I must also emphasise that this is not a seminar and participation will be encouraged. Please come prepared to discuss and debate these ideas.

The aim is always to run a workshop that is both lively and interesting as we help IFAs understand how these Pension changes can help them develop their business model.

So Tim Benson please introduce yourself.

Having spent my whole career working with IFAs, it seemed only natural that I have become a Consultant for IFA firms. Starting out as an Inspector with Clerical Medical back in the Eighties, I continued to excel in this sort of role with Prudential, GE Life and finally LV=. In that time, I learnt very quickly that IFAs needed help and support rather than simple provision of information. I always tried to help IFAs understand how they could use an idea or what the idea could do for their clients, rather than just what it was. I developed this skill further by obtaining a Diploma in Direct Marketing, which gave me an even clearer understanding of the importance of the right message to the right people at the right time. I also spent my time pursuing Financial Services qualifications, (such that I am now Level Four qualified) and with the onset of Pension Simplification in 2006, I combined both the Marketing and Pension skill sets and gained a reputation for running technical workshops to help IFAs. These workshops, and ideas from them, developed further as Pensions developed and when the new Pension Freedom rules arrived in April 2015, I decided to let go of the 'Corporate reins' and set up as an IFA Consultant. I now provide support to many IFAs in matters such as Pension Technical Support and Updates, marketing campaigns, including email and website content, development of Professional Connections, and planning and running client Seminars and Workshops. I still recognise the importance of continuing my Professional Development and have just recently passed R08, the Pensions Update Exam.
