Summary:

In this session we will be taking a look into the basics of reinsurance. We will look at why reinsurance is important to the insurance industry and the various forms it takes. We will also look at some case studies that demonstrate the role re-insurance plays within the global insurance industry.

We will cover:

  • What is reinsurance?
  • Why is it important to the insurance industry?
  • Facultative v treaty reinsurance
  • The ways in which reinsurance can be purchased
  • The role of reinsurance

This course is ideal for those new to insurance as well as those working within the industry who want further knowledge. It is also a useful course to those studying for their CertCII.

Objectives:

By the end of this course you will:

  • Understand what reinsurance is and its importance
  • Recognise the different types of reinsurance
  • Build your confidence in having a conversation about reinsurance

Speaker Biography:

Jane Carr FCII worked in the insurance industry for over 25 years in a variety of roles, including underwriting, broking and senior management positions in the UK and internationally. Alongside these market roles, she has been involved with various insurance educational bodies such as the Chartered Insurance Institute, and the Jamaican Board of Studies as an examiner and trainer. During the last ten years she has been more focused on learning and development and enabling others to grow their knowledge. This has included one to one mentoring and coaching as well as larger group training, both face to face and virtually. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute (FCII) and holds a Diploma in Children and Young Peoples Mental Health.
