Welcome to the Insurance Institute of Southampton as we move into the 2026/27 year.
Our Institute has a proud history of supporting professional development, industry excellence, and meaningful community engagement across the insurance profession. As President, I am committed to building on this legacy while ensuring we continue to evolve in line with the needs of our members, employers, and the wider community.
Over the coming year, our focus will be on creating opportunity, supporting wellbeing, and fostering an inclusive, forward‑looking professional culture — ensuring our Institute remains relevant, accessible, and impactful for everyone.
Our Focus for 2026/27
Next Gen Development & Empowerment
We are committed to attracting, developing, and retaining the next generation of insurance professionals and future leaders.
Key priorities include:
- Creating clear and accessible pathways for Next Gen members to get involved, including opportunities to participate in council and Institute activity.
- Delivering tailored CPD and soft‑skills programmes focused on communication, leadership, resilience, commercial awareness, and financial acumen.
- Launching a regional mentoring initiative to connect early‑career professionals with experienced practitioners, supporting long‑term career development and retention.
Mental Health, Wellbeing & Workplace Support
We want to normalise conversations around mental health and ensure wellbeing is embedded across professional development and leadership.
Key priorities include:
- Making mental health a core and consistent theme across our CPD programme, events, and communications.
- Providing practical wellbeing resources and workshops covering stress management, burnout prevention, resilience, and work–life balance.
- Encouraging open discussion and the sharing of best practice to support psychologically safe and healthy workplaces.
Inclusive Culture & Community Impact
We are focused on building an inclusive, values‑led professional culture while strengthening our positive impact across the local community.
Key priorities include:
- Championing gender equity and broader representation across technical roles, leadership pathways, and decision‑making forums.
- Hosting events and networking forums that showcase diverse career journeys, lived experiences, and success stories.
- Embedding inclusive practices across all Institute activity, ensuring diversity, equity, wellbeing, and accessibility are reflected in our programmes and communications.
- Increasing visibility of diverse role models through speaker selection, member stories, and award nominations.
- Strengthening community engagement through charitable partnerships, fundraising, and outreach with schools, colleges, and universities.
- Working with employers and partners to promote best practice in inclusive leadership, flexible working, and sustainable career progression.
