Jim Glocking will give the annual IICG Fire Risk and Prevention presentation.

Buffet and refreshments will be available from 12pm with the talk beginning at 1230pm

Event Overview:

In this session Jim Glocking will discuss the Resilience of the built environment in the UK and how progressive changes to the regulations and legal framework have eroded once present features that supported Business and Property protection in favour of an exclusively life-safety focussed remit.

During the talk factors that contribute to a changing risk environment will be discussed together with understanding who has the authority to influence change and the tools available to the end user once the need for a resilience objective has been identified.

Speaker:

Jim is the Director of RISC Authority and Technical Director of the Fire Protection Association.

His career has been varied, ranging from lecturing in Chemical Engineering and Fire Safety Engineering, working as a Forensic Fire Investigator, Head of Projects at BRE/LPC, including large scale fire testing. More recently at the FPA, Jim has continued to undertake research into fire protection with particular emphasis on risk avoidance, reduction and management.

Have a basic understanding of the resilience of the built environment in the UK.

Have an awareness of the impact of the changes to regulations and the legal framework.

Have an understanding of the factors contributing to the changing risk environment and who has the authority to influence change.
