Dick Richardson
Dick served our institute with distinction for many years, including his term as President from 1986 to 1987, and he remained a much‑loved figure within our community long after retiring from Council.
Many of us remember him not only for his professional dedication, but also for the warmth, humour and generosity he brought to every interaction — whether supporting future Presidents, lecturing with his trademark ability to make complex subjects engaging, or sharing stories on the cricket field during the annual Insurance vs Brokers match.
Dick’s contribution to the CII at both local and national level was exceptional. He was deeply committed to professional development, writing textbooks, setting and marking exam papers, and inspiring generations of young professionals. His influence extended far beyond our institute: he represented us at National Council, received a CII Exceptional Service Award, and was a proud Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Insurers.
Those who worked with him describe him as a true gentleman — decent, humble, knowledgeable and unfailingly supportive.
Dick is remembered with great affection by all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the countless people he encouraged, taught and guided throughout his career
