Ethical Leadership

Wednesday, 17 May 2023
12:00 pm (UK time)

Much of the thinking on leadership today is about how the behaviour of the leader can affect both team and individual morale and also the performance of the organisation.

The Harvard Business Review states that “Leaders can do far more than just make their own behaviour more ethical. Because they are responsible for the decisions of others as well as their own, they can dramatically multiply the amount of good they do by encouraging others to be better.”

This session will help you understand what it means to be an ethical leader and will provide opportunities to review how the stated values of organisations relate to the culture and behaviour in practice.

It will give you an opportunity to think about being a leader, and also an employee, in your own organisation so you can consider how you influence colleagues in your own role with the norms you set and the work environment you create.

Aim of this unit:

To develop an understanding of ethical leadership and the impact of culture and values on leadership

By the end of the session you will be able to:

  • Understand what is meant by ethical leadership practice in an organisation
  • Identify approaches to responsible leadership
  • Consider internal and external factors affecting leadership practice
  • Identify practical tips to use in your own workplace
