Different professions, different perspectives CPD Event

Gloucester Rugby Club
Tuesday, 05 July 2016
12:15 pm – 2:00 pm (UK time)

Presented by: David Westall (Director and Principal trainer, Delta Omega)

Overview:

Underwriters, actuaries and accountants all look at insurance data in different ways (in order to answer different questions). This can lead to communication problems between the groups.

This seminar will clarify these different views of the data and explore the advantages and disadvantages of each.

The concepts of “combined ratio” and “return-on-equity” will be defined and a model to “translate” between “accountant-speak” and “underwriter-speak” will be explored. A copy of the Excel model will be e-mailed to each attendee.

Objectives:

At the end of this event, the delegate will be able to identify:

  • A better appreciation of the different perspectives within an insurer.
  • The advantages and disadvantages of the ways that data can be interpreted.
